Primary Election 2022

What you need to know about voting in this year’s elections:

You may be a first-time voter.

Whether it’s your first time voting or your fourth, we want to make sure you have the tools to register to vote and vote the way you choose — in-person, by mail, early or on Election Day. The North Carolina State Board of Elections has information about registering as a college student and now you can register to vote online through the North Carolina DMV.

There’s no such thing as an “off year.”

The 2020 election was a presidential election and one for the books. However, there’s no “off year” when it comes to voting. In every year there are either municipal, or primary elections where the student perspective and voice are needed.

Make your voice heard in this election and in elections to come!

If you are planning to vote in the upcoming statewide primary election on Tuesday, May 17, you must be registered to vote by this Friday, April 22, 2022.

You have options to register to vote in North Carolina:

When mailing your form, remember to postmark it no later than the deadline of Friday, April 22. Forms can be mailed from any mailbox on campus, including the U.S. Post Office located on the third floor of the UNC Student Stores by the South Road entrance.

To register to vote in other states, use the national voter registration form.

If you miss the voter registration deadline or prefer to vote early, you can register to vote during one-stop early voting. One-stop early voting in North Carolina will run from Thursday, April 28, until Saturday, May 14, 2022. The location closest to campus for Orange County voters will be Chapel of the Cross (304 East Franklin Street, next to Morehead Planetarium and Science Center). Find more information about voting early or voting by mail at the North Carolina State Board of Elections website.
