Description

On behalf of the Latinx Heritage Month planning committee, The Carolina Latinx Center, Student Life and Leadership, and Carolina Union Activities Board, we are pleased to announce the Latinx Heritage Month celebration at UNC for 2021.

The theme for this year’s Latinx Heritage Month is “Heels Pa’lante”. The slang phrase pa’lante is well known throughout various parts of Spanish speaking Latin America. Directly translated, it means to move forward. After the past 18 months of isolation, challenging political climates, and an overwhelming amount of unexpected grief – our committee wanted to focus on how we move forward as a community and as individuals. We are not going back to anything, rather we are gathering to go pa’lante together.

In line with our theme of moving forward, the keynote speaker will be Julian Castro. A lawyer, and community organizer, Mr. Castro is a San Antonio native, and the Former Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, and Mayor of San Antonio. Known as much for his risk taking, we are excited to welcome Julian Castro to UNC to talk about how he has learned to move forward as a politician, a leader, and a man throughout his life’s victories and losses.

Free Tickets will go live at 8am on Thursday, September 23rd, 2021. One Ticket per OneCard
