Economic Briefing FRIDAY: How Far Will the Fed Go?
We look at what the new employment numbers may mean for interest rate expectations
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (May 31, 2022) — Learn how the Department of Labor’s monthly employment report and recent market gyrations will affect expectations for the Fed’s interest rate policy and views on the outlook for the economy when the Kenan Institute’s new series of economic briefings returns this week.
The forecast calls for another strong month of job growth, but many investors see clouds on the economic horizon. Professor Greg Brown, the institute’s executive director, will provide an update on the employment figures and take your questions at 9 a.m. this Friday, June 3.
Chief Economist Gerald Cohen kicked off the institute’s monthly briefings with a session May 6. Various experts from the institute will appear in the coming months and offer insights from their areas of specialization. The briefings will occur on the morning that the Labor Department releases its employment report, usually the first Friday of each month.
